What’ your opinion?

NotreBlog is a virtual web space for students to share their thoughts and opinions with students from all over the world. It also lets students see that other kids all over the world are not that different from them. So take a look and respond to one of the questions. Because it is monitored for proper usage and no students information is passed on, it can take 24 hours for your response to show up. Remember there are hundreds of students expressing themselves.

Digital Natives

digitalnative.jpeStudents born about 1990 and after are being referred to as “digital natives”. Marc Prensky coined that term in an article he wrote called Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants. Students today have grown up with one of the biggest/quickest changes in technology in history. Many students today have their own computers, cell phones, and mp3 players. They IM, text message, email, and have a MySpace account. Many students have built their own web sites and have “friends” who live on other continents. According to Prensky, students “think and process information fundamentally differently from their predecessors”

Do you feel like a “digital native”? How does this make you different than your parents and teachers? How will this affect you as an adult?

For the “digital immigrants”, if what Prensky says is true, how does this change how schools function?
